Fillies News Updates!!
The Fillies had an exceptional 2009 lacrosse season with an overall
record of 14-9-0. This was the first season in several years that the
Fillies plowed through their opponents in order to make it to the State
Quarter Finals against the 2008 state champions, the New Trier Trevians.
This season the Fillies pounded 219 goals into the back of their
opponents’ net. They were lead by standout senior, Audrey Stapleton.
Stapleton lead not only the team in goals scored, but was second in
state as well, rallying 70 goals for the season. She also was first in
state for ground ball control, capitalizing on 68 for the season.
Stapleton earned several awards for her outstanding performance this
spring. She was inducted into the 2009 Barrington High School Wall of
Fame along with senior teammates and co-captains Allison Beveridge and
Marie Bernardo. Stapleton also shares the honor of making the All
Academic team with Beveridge and Bernardo. The most prestigious
recognition Stapleton earned this season was making the Second All State
Team. Stapleton, along with 12 other players in the state of Illinois,
earned this honor.
Another stand out senior was National Honor Society member, Allison
Beveridge. Bev, as her teammates call her, led the team and state with
31 interceptions. She is also the recipient of the Barrington High
School Scholar Athlete award which is given to seniors that perform
exceptionally well both on and off the field. Beveridge; along with
Bernardo, Stapleton, seniors Sarah Borchardt and Morgan Rossi, and
juniors Ellie Betar, Beth Geshwender, Catharine Moran, and Michelle Zei,
share the honor of being selected to the mid-suburban all conference
team. These ladies helped to defend the Fillies Mid-Suburban conference
championship reign.
Although we are losing several dynamic seniors this season, the Fillies
continue to look strong for 2010. Stand out goal keeper, Michelle Zei,
has been selected by Lake Shore Lacrosse to play on their travel team.
She recently attended the Women’s LAX World Cup in Philadelphia and is
spending time this summer in Prague, Czech Republic, playing goalie and
attending clinics with LSLAX. These amazing experiences will no doubt
enable her to step up her game next season along with her stellar
returning teammates. The Fillies are eager to begin training for 2010
and are ready to lead the league with never-ending dedication and
determination. Goals will be set very high for these ladies and
expectations even higher. Keep an eye out for these athletes because
they will excel in 2010…it’s time to break the chains and bring in the
change!
